SARAH HOOVER AND HILLARY LOPES ON BIRTH TRAUMA AND MEDICAL CARE

The Floor on Atlantic presents an art history presentation by art historian and writer Sarah Hoover, followed by a discussion with founder of Blackswell Birth Foundation, Hillary Lopes. In efforts to continue the conversation around how racism and misogyny inform obstetric violence, parental mental health, the postpartum period and infant care, Hoover and Lopes look through the lens of the impressionist paintings of Edouard Manet, and the contemporary work of Cecily Brown. The evening includes an in depth discussion over the topics, before opening up a casual conversation with the audience.
